I would love to tell you that this topic is about the burn I feel when doing lunges at the gym. Unfortunately, the only pain I am feeling in that area is the burn of my wallet when paying dues for something that I barely use. No, the burn today has nothing to do with physical endurance, but has everything to do with emotional perseverance.
I doubt I am the only one who faces not just one, but multiple challenges on any given day. Some are easier than others, and require nothing more than biting our lip or taking a deep breath. However, there are other challenges that require a level of patience and commitment that at times can seem impossible. These are the challenges that either send us into a tailspin of discouragement, or force us to push through the burn.
I think we all know rationally that discouragement is not the best option, so how can we focus our minds to move forward? Perhaps it is as simple as having a course of action. I recently came across an article that listed the six phases of pushing through the burn that I felt worth sharing. It's basic, of course, but impactful.
Keep On - Make a decision to set your mind every day to the positive.
Believe On - Have faith that you are able to get through obstacles, no matter how big.
Hold On - Don't confuse "not now" with "not ever".
Press On - Be patient.
Run On - Don't focus on the problem, focus on the solution.
Count On - Be grateful every chance you can for the opportunity to learn and grow.
Not sure this will help my motivation to get to the gym, but that's a blog for another day.
How do you push through the burn?
