I am rarely at a loss for words, but this week is unique. To take time to write about personal or professional development seems nothing short of frivolous in comparison to the tragedy that impacted the families of Newtown.
So, this week, all of my words will be used to say prayers for the children taken too soon, for the teachers who sacrificed their lives, and for those left behind trying to make sense of all of this in the midst of their unfathomable grief.
My Holiday Blessing to all of you and your families.

I am speechless again! What an incredible story that shows your courage in saying something rather than nothing. The difference and impact you made on that woman is a good lesson for all of us. Caring for people can come in so many different forms.
Wishing you the best and safest holiday season.

Susan .. a number of years ago, the pet owner came in with her Dachshund dog, with early signs of back problems; typical of the breed.
The pet owner's daughter, was tragically killed crossing an intersection by a drunk driver, who ignored the traffic signals. The promising young lady who was killed was a competitive cyclist, practicing for tryouts for the USA Cycling Team to compete in the Olympics.
At the end of the office visit, I wanted to say8 something to the pet owner standing in my office .. and I offered the following ..
" Mrs ...... I understand you lost your daughter tragically this weekend in a senseless accident. I do not know what to say, nor how to express my condolences to you at this time."
Mrs. Smith replied .." Dr Woolf, that is the kindest thing anyone has offered me for the events of this past weekend. Thank you for being caring and considerate."
Sometimes we do not know what to say, nor how to express our feelings in the tragedies that befall us. At times, it is o.k. to say ... " I wish I knew what to say in your recent loss. "
And, this is comforting to the grieving person and/or family.
Susan, thank you for sharing.
